Toastmasters International provides an opportunity for anyone and everyone to develop one of the most important skills needed to succeed both personally & professionally – communication skills. Without communication skills, individuals with high technical proficiency may not be able to communicate their value to employers during job interviews. It might even be hard to give a toast during a social event or give an acceptance speech after winning an award.

Here are several young students who are looking to get ahead of the curve and develop their speaking skills while they are young. They understand the value of dedicating time to improve their speaking abilities on a weekly basis.

This student is an active member of the Brampton Speakeasy Toastmasters club.

I have been a Toastmasters member for the last 8 months, during which I have performed over 10 speeches. I recently competed in the Toastmasters International competition at the club level and ended up winning! I went on to compete in the area level competition against other clubs, but unfortunately, I did not make it any further. I have gone through a life-changing transformation from someone terrified of speaking in front of others to being incredibly confident while speaking in both personal & professional environments. Brampton Speakeasy Toastmasters club members have mentored me throughout my journey and have provided a safe a supportive environment for me to develop my speaking abilities. I am eternally grateful for the way Toastmasters has helped me grow!

This student had been considering joining Toastmasters and decided to take the leap of faith!

For me, Toastmasters is an opportunity to be better than the person than I was yesterday. And, after all, the best way to learn and grow is by doing. Toastmasters will give me the practical experience I need to be an effective professional, leader, and communicator. It will supplement the political acuity skills that I am pursuing in my career. Where better to do it than with those who share a vested interest? I’m confident that this is what Toastmasters will be for me, and I plan to hold myself accountable by committing to at least six speeches over the next three months. Let’s see how it goes!
